So 2012 is just a few hours away! End of the world, here we come! Nah, brahs, just joking. I don't think the world's ending, I just think Micky the Mayan Calendar Maker hated his job and stopped making them, causing the rest of his people to proclaim the year as the Apocalypse. Yup, that's all accurate.
Well, my resolution of 2012 is to complete AT LEAST 3 animated projects since I feel laziness will try to stop me. In fact, I started one last night
Also, I decided to vent some more and make another list serving as a sequel to this --> [link]
Sorry to rant about this. IT may be a touchy subject, but I want to say something...Anime
-;- I'm not too sad to say this, despite many of my friends on here enjoy it, but I don't like anime. Now I'm gonna say this, because some might say that I don't give anime a chance, I used to like anime
. Surprising, maybe, but I did. Then I grew out of it, so der. I also don't have much agains't anime video games, since they can actually be pretty well written and sustainable. With that said, let's proceed. The only exceptions are Hayao Miyazaki and Teen Titans, though I consider that more of a Western/Japanese cartoon hybrid. I've never understood why so many people enjoy anime, it all looks relatively the same to me. I can only name a few anime styles, Tetsuya Nomura, Tezuka Osamu, and Hayao Miyazaki, that I can tell apart. Everything else is rinsed and repeated from every other anime installment. The so called "animation" irks me, too. It looks like a PowerPoint show. A still looks exactly the same, it dramatically scrolls slowly horizontally over, while a character stands there
? No way! Let's save it for later to interrupt a fight! Also, what's with the characters talking
and their mouths never seem to close
literally. Whenever they talk, the lips never meet again to annunciate any other letters and maintain a consistent shape. Lazy animating, anyone? They look like fucking Pac-Man for God's sake, and even HE has better dialogue than an anime character. Yeah, I'm not a fan of anime scripts, either. Stupid dialogue, non-sensical story= large fanbase
Seems legit. For instance, I ADORE Studio Ghibli's film, Ponyo, though the dialogue is pretty bad. Also, the characters are sometimes dull. They may have amazing powers and abilities to aid them in feats. of more lazy animating, but they just don't seem real or interesting in any factor. Though, I did enjoy Naruto, and wouldn't mind going back to watch the original series again, I thought the characters were nice and fun, they may be poser ninjas, but it was sweet to watch. I wondered, "Why can't any other anime/manga make something as interesting as this?" Hm, I'm surprised that I'm less interested in anime with fights than anime with NO fights at all. OH, I KNOW WHY.
Vegeta, we shall fight with our awesome fighter skills of awesome powah!
[Insert lazy animated fight scene of four repeated stills]
[Totally interrupting "awesome" fight scene for meaningless dialogue]Aw wha? How did you get so strong?
[Instead of continuing the fight with his "amazing" n00b fighting skillz] Remember all of that training about chasing some fucking monkey, then running on a giant snake for ten episodes?
Oh yeah.TYPICAL ANIME FIGHT SCENE
Because when you ask someone how you got so strong they'll totally pause and tell you their story, which probably gives away their weakness, and ruing all of the fun. THIS IS WHY I LIKE WESTERN ANIMATION
IT'S ANIMATED. C:< Take that, fangirls.
Also, part of the anime fanbase is a lot like the Sonic fanbase. Half of it's immature and worship said fandom, and half of it just praise it in the normal way. I've even seen in some signatures phrases like "People who don't like anime should be dragged into the streets and killed"
Another thing, is the yaoi and yuri
WHY IS THERE SO MUCH? I'm fine with art featuring homosexual characters and their love for each other, but just because a character of the same gender is friends or in some way affiliated with another same-sex character, DOESN'T MAKE THEM WANNA FUCK DER BRAINZ OWT. Probably one of the WORST franchises targeted by yaoi is a giant chunk of my childhood, Kingdom Hearts. Sora and Riku are FRIENDS. Believe it or not, it's SoKai, more than SoRiku. And don't say I'm shoving any opinions, you saw
the endings to both of the games
, you saw Sora and Kairi and the Paopu Fruit, Nomura said there isn't any love in the game, he's just saying that in pity for the rabid fangirls.
So, in the end now, I feel I should compare my views on Anime and Westernation
I think anime is very lazy when it comes to actually animating the entire show instead of the occasional action moment. Then I see a Western cartoon like The Regular Show. The characters are always so vibrant and moving. It's like floating down a graceful river with a bear slapping a duck with a salmon. It may be weird to watch, yes, but's it's still funny. Seriously, right now imagine you're on a raft and in front of you is a bear slapping a duck across the face with his lunch. Immerse yourself, I DEMAND IT.
Getting back on track, the characters of the West also stand out to me as well. I feel much more caring for the characters because they show emotion and attitude that makes them more likable to viewers. Like Miss Bianca has stood out to me. When people come to making a female lead, they either go the Princess Peach or Street Fighter Cammy. I like female characters who seem real, buyable as a woman, but still tough at heart, AKA MISS BIANCA.
The storyline is also something to compare. I'd talk about The Lion King vs. Kimba the White Lion, but I think that they both have a lot of depth and story to an equal extent.
So, that's my opinion on anime, some people like it, but I don't. Theirs is theirs, mine is mine.
Have a Happy New Year ~
